sms_def.mof reverts to original file after modification RRS feed

  • Question

  • So this is yet another weirdness I've run into. I have tried several times to modify the sms_def.mof file. I've edited it to collect some custom inventory classes and when I save the file the file date changes to today's date. OK..after about 10 -15 seconds, the file reverts to the original unedited file wiht the original date. this happens no matter if I stop the SMS Exec and SMS Component services and edit the file then restart the services, edit the file then save over the original, stop the services, delete the original file and paste in the edited version. It always reverts to the original dat/time stamp and the file remains unedited.

This happens on every Primary site server I have. I'm at my wits end because according to the doumentation, you don't even have to stop the services to edit the file. So, if anyone has seen this I'd appreciate some enlightenment on why I seem to be unable to keep an edited version of this file.

    TIA

  • If it reverts that always means there is a syntax error in the mof file. Back it out--believe it when it doesn't like the edit you just did. what edit did you do? just change some things from true to false? (or false to true)? or added a whole new section? even just misspelling FASLE will cause that behavior. a missing ; or } or extra will do that do. Sometimes the problem is hard to spot. If you can't see what the problem is, ask back here.
