  • The issue was eventually root caused to be a hardware issue.

  • If you are protecting any of the system state/BMR protection. Can you stop protection by deleting the older recovery points and then recreate the protection group?

  • Unfortunately, I cannot create any new PG as they all will result in the errors reported. Modifying an existing PG may or may not work. For instance, adding a new protection member such as guest VM without touching current PG settings seem to work. If the backup target is modified, say from D2T to DDT, creation will fail. It is unclear if other actions will lead to identical errors.

We were advised that the error is caused by hardware issues likely attributed to the storage pool disks or connected systems e.g. disk controller. This continues to be investigated. Oddly enough, existing backup jobs / PG continue to work as evidenced as green "OK" from the DPM 2010 RTM Administrative Console (latest RP on disk in storage pool matches expected scheduled backup jobs).

What do you think? Thanks for your help!

  • What exactly was the hardware error? Because I have the same exact problem and this is the ONLY article the addresses this error code by any means, and it is poorly lacking in detail or information!
