IE11 Credentials Prompt in iframe - EPM enabled - Windows 8.x/10 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I'm currently stuck with a strange problem occurring only with Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.

We use a Bluecoat Proxy appliance but it may be the same with other proxies using web filtering.

Actually, on a Windows 7 with IE11 installed, when a user browse an Internet page trying to open a denied website in an iframe, we receive the custom websense page hosted on our Intranet telling that this is not allowed without problem.

When testing the same site with Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, Internet Explorer is asking the user's credentials to display the custom page in the iframe. When clicking on Cancel, I have a 401 error in the iframe, when entering the credentials, I receive the custom page.

The Windows 7, WIndows 8.1 and Windows 10 are using the same GPO.

    Any idea ?

  • Hi,

In my opinion, this phenomenon is normal, it would be better to provide administrator account credential for security next time.

This is UAC function update after Windows 8.1. However, the phenomenon of UAC dialog popup was determined by application itself. We have no way to change it . You can contact its developer for further assistance under this situation.

  • @Gerald, could this be due to browser zone (Intranet zone, where IWA is permitted/enabled), maybe Win8.1/Win10 is not "correctly" mapping to your Local Intranet zone?

If this custom websense intranet page is secured to "Domain Users" or similar, maybe it should instead be unsecured (allow anonymous), no need for authentication for this page?

  • If it was an UAC or zone problem, it should occurs all the time. Let's say that is a denied website. If I type the adress in the adress bar, I get my denied web page. If I create an html page with a frame that should open, I'm prompted for credentials.

  • So, I finally found what was causing the credential prompts --> Enhanced Protected Mode is enabled

Seems that enabling EPM doesn't have the same result in Windows 7 than in Windows 8.x/10 and the only difference I found is that Windows 7 doesn't have the AppContainer functionality.

Is there a way to prevent the prompts when EPM is enabled in Windows 10?

  • I have created a reports page which asks for credentials in normal case(without frame). But when i open in frame it just shows that cannot be connected. What should I do, so that I get enter Credentials window?
