Hyper V Virtual Machine Manager Uptime reset after backup (2012 R2)

    Question

  • Hi All,

I have a weird niggle that i cannot seem to get to the bottom of...

I have 4 x 2012 R2 host servers (all updates and recommended patches installed) that are part of a 4 node cluster.

When i backup my virtual machines the uptime is reset from within the Hyper V virtual machine manager. If i check within the virtual machine itself the machine uptime is correct. The backup product i use is veeam. i have been liaising with their support and it has been narrowed down to a windows based issue. If i manually do a disk shadow this also effects the uptime counter.

If i reset the hyper v virtual machine manager service on the host server the uptime corrects itself but after the next backup it is once again incorrect. When the backup is carried out it is done online and after liaising with veeam and going through backup logs the vm is not going offline at any point.

Has anyone experienced this problem, whilst there appears to be no issues caused by this it is still rather annoying and this didnt happen in server 2008 r2.

    Thanks in advance.

    Daniel
