WSS in server 2008 RRS feed

  • Question

  • While installing MOSS 2007 in Windows Server 2003, we did not have any problem.

However, while installing it on server 2008, i ran into whole lot of problems with compatibility issues which is resolved now.

However, as a solution i had to download wss 3.0 sp2 from the download location

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=ef93e453-75f1-45df-8c6f-4565e8549c2a&DisplayLang=en

Could you please let me know, ain't the WSS installed automatically during server 2008 OS is installed?

If not, then does this gets shipped with the OS and that we ahev to activate a feature?

    Ok, my second question

What is the difference between the below links

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=ef93e453-75f1-45df-8c6f-4565e8549c2a&DisplayLang=en

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=79BADA82-C13F-44C1-BDC1-D0447337051B&displaylang=en

as both appears to be wss 3.0 sp2

but while installing gives different results..?

  • If you are installing MOSS 2007 on Windows Server 2008 why are you looking for WSS 3.0?

You need just MOSS 2007 SP2 installation package for that.

  • I'm wondering if you are both talking about the same thing.

If the product MOSS 2007 including SP1 was installed, then both WSS 3.0 SP2 and then MOSS 2007 SP2 need to be installed on top of it to get to MOSS 2007 incl. SP 2 level.

NabX said he added WSS 3.0 SP2 - Oleg, you are talking about WSS 3.0. Different things.

If the product MOSS 2007 incl SP2 was installed then no WSS 3.0 SP2 is needed as it is already included in what was installed.

  • I have two questions

    1)

What is the difference between the below links

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=ef93e453-75f1-45df-8c6f-4565e8549c2a&DisplayLang=en

    http://w2ww.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=79BADA82-C13F-44C1-BDC1-D0447337051B&displaylang=en

    2) does WSS gets shipped with the server 2008 OS like its predecessor server 2003 OS?

please answer to these questions only...Thanks

  • q1:

Both links are wrong. The first should probably be

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=ef93e453-75f1-45df-8c6f-4565e8549c2a

and is the link to a download of the full WSS 3.0 where SP2 is already included.

The second link is almost correct but should be www, so

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=79BADA82-C13F-44C1-BDC1-D0447337051B&displaylang=en

This is the link to the Service Pack 2 *only* - it assumes you already have WSS 3.0 or MOSS 2007 installed.

q2: As far as I can remember Windows Server 2008 does not have WSS 3.0 included. Certainly I'm fairly sure the present version of it doesn't have WSS 3.0 included.

  • What do you think why it was not included?
