Shutdown issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • After updating, I started getting the message below on shutdown:

Waiting for background programs to close.

Most of the time after this message flashes briefly on the screen the system will hang on shutdown and have to be shut down using the Reset button.

How can I track down the guilty program?

Answers

  • Start > Run > type msconfig

Select Startup and uncheck the unwanted programs to run at system startup.

Close all the programs properly before attempting shutdown.

Mark as Answer if it's worked. Thanks. Balamurugan_Subramaniyan

  • Hi,

We could use the below tool to get a shutdown trace:

Tool:Windows Performance Toolkit (Xperf, WPRUI and WPR) updated version as of Aug.2013

And here is a blog talking about how to generate a shutdown trace and analyze with it in Windows 7:Trace Windows 7 boot/shutdown/hibernate/standby/resume issues
