Intermittent broadband connection issues RRS feed

  • Question

  • Recently my wired broadband connection has started cycling between full capacity and zero capacity at which point webpages don't load, messenger signs off, downloads stop etc. The drops last for 30-60 seconds and happen every few minutes. I've tried pretty much every connection solution suggested on every other thread including uninstalling nic drivers, settings, dos commands, uninstalling windows updates, changing virus protection software, firewall settings etc etc etc all to no avail.

This happens on my desktop with Vista and all updates installed and also on my old laptop which runs XP and hasn't had a windows update in nearly 3 years. I've changed ethernet cables, my router has no obvious faults (all connections are sound and all lights are as they should be) and my isp have checked that there are no faults on the line.

Anyone got any suggestions? I'm convinced it's the modem but my isp say it's working fine!
