Migrating Sharepoint 3.0 on 32-bit Server 2003 to 64-bit Server 2008 R2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • My company is in the process of decommissioning an old Web Server which has 32-bit Server 2003 SP2 and SQL 2005. We are using Sharepoint 3.0 on it.

The boss has purchased a new machine running 64-bit Server 2008 R2 with SQL 2008. He would like to migrate Sharepoint 3.0 from the old server to the new server.

What is the easiest way to go about this?.

  • Hi,

Did you check this article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd622865(office.12).aspx ?

    >> Take full backup of 12 hive and IIS
    >> Take full backup of all SQL Content DBs
    >> On new 64 bit server install WSS 3.0 64 bit and run PSConfig
    >> Restore backup content DBs and attach them to sites on new server

Let us know if this helps,Thanks
