  • That's the problem. You can not move a single site from SPS 2003 to MOSS 2007.

You have the choice of using third-party migration tools which may do this, OR of following the links you were given and doing a full upgrade. Microsoft provide no methods for moving sites from a v2 SharePoint system to a v3 SharePoint system.

smigrate which was a possibility from v1 to v2 (STS to WSS 2.0) is no longer available for the v3 products for instance.

  • There are several methods to upgrade from SPS 2003 to MOSS 2007: there is the gradual approach, the In-place approach and the database migration approach. Each one requires different amounts of efforts and provides a certain amount of efficiency. You can read about all that at the links below:

While the migration process doesn't take much time, the preparation and the planning do.

    I hope this helps

  • Those links describe how to upgrade from SPS 2003 to MOSS 2007. I don't need to upgrade. I have one server with 2003 and one server with 2007. I need to move a single site from the 2003 server to the 2007 server.

  • Thanks Mike. That's not the answer I was hoping for, but at least now I know.

  • It's messy but do-able.  STSADM site to backup file.  Create new content database in 2003.  Set all others to offline.  This is best if you have a separate 2003 farm apart for production.  You can create a one server farm that exists in both MOSS and 2003, it works great.  Anyhow, then STSADM -restore the site in 2003, so it goes in its own content db.  The, detach from 2003.  Use STSADM in \12\bin and -addcontentdb.  The db gets upgraded.  You can then move the site with STSADM in MOSS as needed, or just leave it.
