Open a Project Pro (read-only) - Project Server 2010 schdule - Insufficient Permissions RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have the user in the Executives group. I checked "Open Project". When attempting to open the schedule in Project Pro, I get "You do not have sufficient permissions".

Tried adding the "New Project" permission. Same error came back.

Tried adding to the "My Projects" catagory. Same error came back.

I'm getting ideas to try by reading this thread as our issues are similar, but she wanting the user to access PWA and I want the user to access Project Pro read-only.

  • Open the Executives group in PWA.

Look at the list of Categories to which Executives is 'connected'

    Select the first one

Below the list will pop a grid of permissions. That is the permissions that Executive group members have on the projects that the selected category provides access to.

out of the box Executives is a member of "my organization" which (out of the box) allows access to All Current and Future Projects.

So if you want Executives to be able to open ALL projects into Project Pro then make sure t hey  have Allow for the "open project" permission in this grid.

  • Hi,

while trying understand your query, Do you want your users to access the project plans read-only in Project professional?

if above is true, than unfortunately this is not possible. the project plan viewed read-only can only be possible through PWA. For the executives you have to let them access the project plans from PWA in a read-only view.

Let us know if i interpreted your query wrong and we will try to help you.

    Hope this helps.

  • Khurram,

I think that if the user has the Global permission to Logon to Project Server from Project Professional and then has the Group\Category permission to "Open Project" but does NOT have "Save Project to Project Server" then they effectively have Read Only permissions in Project Pro.
