Splitting Forefront protection RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear all,

I have FOPE set in place over SBS Exchange 2003 which scans emails for 2 different e-mail domains. Company is now splitting in two and each email domain will have their own dedicated server and static IP assigned.

I need to split Forefront protection between the two now.

Which steps would you recommend? Do I need to create a new agrement for 2nd domain that will be on a new server and IP address? Or, can I add 2nd IP to FOPE domains and simply lock out SMTP on the new server as it was on the old one? In that case, do I need a new agreement or not?

  • Hi LJ,

You'll need to talk to the vendor that you purchased FOPE from regarding licensing questions.

For the config part, simply add the new domain in the Admin Center config,

Under each domain, change the "Mail Server Address:" to point to the IP of the server that is accepting mail for that domain.

  • If it's  not a new company/business etc you shouldn't need a new account.  Basically inside of FOPE you will have 2 email domains configured.  For each domain you will set a different delivery IP point ie contoso.com goes to 192.168.1.2 and northwinds.com goes to 192.168.1.3.   Each domain in FOPE has it's own "Outbound Mail Server IP Addresses" section to specify this.
