Failover Cluster WMI Provider detected an invalid character

    Question

  • I'm getting a lot of events like the following from FailoverClustering-WMIProvider with event ID 6230 for a number of attributes.

Failover Cluster WMI Provider detected an invalid character. The private property name 'Conflict Path' had an invalid character and has been changed to 'Conflict_Path'. Valid characters for WMI property names are A-Z, a-z, 0-9, and '_'.

It looks a lot like this issue https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/958807/windows-server-2008-failover-clustering-wmi-provider-does-not-correctly-handle-invalid-characters-in-the-private-property-names-causing-wmi-queries-to-fail but the host is Server 2012 R2. Has anyone else seen this issue on Server 2012 R2?

  • Hi,

Have you run cluster validation and are there any related information?

Did you make any changes before the issue happen?

Have you tried to install all the latest updates on the server?

    Best Regards,

    Leo
