SCCM site upgrade to latest version RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Please let me know which is current latest version of SCCM which we can successfully installed in production environment.

Our current site is running SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 CU3.

Is it possible to upgrade existing working site to latest version of 1511 or 1602?

Is there full version got release for 1511 or 1602?

Is there any issue observed post upgrade?

    Please suggest.

  • The most current release is Configuration Manager Current Branch, Version 1602. You can't go directly to 1602 though, because the current baseline for which an Installation Media exists is 1511.

So basically, you can upgrade to Version 1511 and after that use the new Site Servicing to update to 1602. You can however update your Clients directly from 2012 R1 SP1 CU3 to 1602.

Is these both version are free available or need to download from MVLS site?

If its free then please share the link for same.

Can client also be upgraded directly from 2012 r2 SP1 (without CU3) to 1602?

ConfigMgr is not Freeware. It's part of Microsoft's System Center Suite, which must be licensed. The Installation Media can be found on MSDN or on VLSC for download.

    Yes

    Dear Sir,

Since ConfigMgr 1511, you could use the new feature in-console upgrade servicing, so there's no need to download the 1602 installation media yourself. The service connection point role will automatically download the upgrade files for you. For more details about upgrading to 1602, you could refer to this blog:

        https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/configmgr_geek_speak/2016/03/11/configuration-manager-1511-to-1602-upgrade-walkthrough/

Also there're a lot of things you should take care before/post upgrading, it's stated clearly in the documentation:

    Dear Sir,

You will have to upgrade the secondary sites manually in the console after the primary site completes the upgrade.

Yes, just click the "upgrade" option which will be available at that time. You could monitor the process by examining the ConfigMgrSetup.log and the Show Install Status message.

    Best regards,

    Jimmy
