Lync 2013 Voice Integration RRS feed

  • Question

  • Don't know if anyone here can solve this or not.  With Windows Messenger going away, my company has moved to Lync Server 2013.  We have the IM client portion of the software installed and all is working as expected.  We have discussed internally about integrating the Voice option, this would allow us to move away from GoToMeeting.  Does anyone know if there is some sort of "cloud" option that we can buy into and associate that with our topology?  Or for voice, do you have to bring actual phone lines into your environment dedicated just for Lync Server?

If anyone can elaborate on how there voice topology is setup as well, that would be beneficial.

Are you saying you have Lync installed on your premise and want to add pstn calling? If so you can either get a PSTN gateway to connect your phone lines to Lync or you can buy SIP Trunks (from the likes of Intelepeer) that will require no gateway.

If you are using Office365 and have basic Voice requirements you can have Jajah integrate to Office365 having a complete cloud PSTN calling solution.

If you are asking if you can do Lync web meetings, the asnwer is Yes! Just add a Lync Edge to your topology and make sure you have enough bandwidth.

  • a sip trunk does not require any additional hardware if you use a LYnc Ceritified SIP trunk. (you want to in any event) I would suggest if you are a small shop to talk to Intelepeer. (you can tell them i sent you)

  • Great, thanks Matt, for the info!  We'll most likely steer towards the SIP trunking.  Does it require any add'tl hardware besides the server infrastructure?

  • We are a company that works from home.  We all have VoIP phones and already use SIP trunking and contacted our current phone provider, and they have said that it is not something that they currently offer, but is something that they are going to discuss with their engineers.

When you say, Lync Certified SIP Trunk...what exactly makes it "Lync Certified"?

    Thanks.
