Mail delivery delay to DL's RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Team,

    Server : Exchange 2003 ent sp2 on Win2003 R2

Antispam : Barracuda Spam filter appliance & MS Antigen on Exchange server

I found there is lot of email delayed delivery happening only to when it is sent to DL's. What could be the issue.

I could see the mail was sent to the server and the server didn't process it seems or delayed. Where could i find the reason for delay. I checked Event logs there are no specific error pertaining to this delay.

  • We didn't apply hotfix as we are running with some other issues.

After enabling logging and intrestingly i found it was not by server. It was by the inbound barracuda spam filter device which was causing the issue. It was deferring the connections to the server and the users who were in whitelist were receiving emails perfectly while if it is addressed to a group as the barracuda has some issue with credential validation with LDAP so it deferred the connection.

    Thanks!

    This solved the issue.

  • How many exchange 2003 servers do you have in this environment?

Try setting expansion server on the DL to a particular exchange server which is up and running in the environment (should not be a permanent setting in multi server scenarios)

In the queue viewer which queues are the messages stuck on?

  • Try below link

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/913664

Enable diagnostics logging for the SMTP service in Exchange System Manager

    1. Display the properties of the Exchange Server object that hosts the SMTP virtual servers.

    2. Select the Diagnostics Logging tab.

    3. Under Services, select MSExchangeTransport.

    4. Under Categories, select all the categories that the SMTP service provides, including Routing Engine/Service, Categorizer, Queuing Engine, Exchange Store Driver, NTFS Store Driver, SMTP Protocol, and Connection Manager.

    5. Under Logging Level, select the appropriate logging level. In a troubleshooting situation, it is appropriate to increase the level of event logging for the MSExchangeTransport services to Maximum to obtain the most detailed information

    6. Check  event viewer in application log for ese errors

    7. Try disabling antispam services and check the mail flow
