Lync Device Pool in CUCM using Local Route Group RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I have setup integration with CUCM 8 using a similar procedure to http://blog.unplugthepbx.com/2011/03/16/integrating-microsoft-lync-and-cisco-unified-communication-manager-part-3-configuring-cucm-to-route-calls-to-lync/

There is a single Lync standard edition pool with a trunk to CUCM 8. There are a number of remote sites each with a local ISR router with PSTN connectivity. CUCM has a number of existing route patterns that use the "Standard Local route" as the route group.

One issue I've encountered is that a number of Route Patterns in CUCM are configured to use a Route List (LOCAL_RL) that has a single route "Standard Local Route Group". This allows mobile, service and emergency numbers dialed in CUCM to go out the local ISR gateways.

My Lync device pool didn't have a Local Route Group specified so these type of calls failed initially. Specifying a Local Route Group forced emergency calls out a specific gateway. I would like Lync clients to use media bypass to the local ISR routes for PSTN connectivity.

Any suggestions to get the calls to go out local gateways??

    Jacob.

  • Hi Jacob,

You can build Sip Trunks from Lync to your local gateways. This would allow media bypass to the gateway with a local route. Routing via CUCM this would no be possible and all traffic would need to terminate at a MTP before the gateway.

This post might be helpful for setting up the SIP trunk. You can have your centrally located mediation server do the SIP trunks to multiple gateways so no need to deploy more mediation server.
