Express full backup and full backup RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have DPM server installed for my Exchange 2010 databases. I see the option express full backup while creating protection group for exchange database

I read one article, express full backup takes the snapshot of the changed blocks from the previous express full backup and it updates the replica. It is like an incremental backup which is doing the same function.

what is the differnce between incremental and Express full backup ?? & How recovery points are created?

please give an example practically. it will help for us.

    Thanks in advance

  • Hi Chandru,

Exchange Incremental Backups only copy/backup the Exchange Transaction logs to DPM.

Express Full Copy the blocks that were changed since last Express Full for the EDB + New Transaction Logs and once all these data are moved to the DPM server it creates a Point in Time (PiT) backup (VSS Snapshot on the DPM server). This PiT is what goes to the Recovery Point Volume....
