Windows 7 x64 compatible versions of HIS RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am working on a project to upgrade our clients from Windows XP to Windows 7.  We have an application that runs fine on XP and uses the old SNA 95 Client, connecting to a HIS 2004 server.  I've tried installing the app and the SNA client on Windows 7 but unsurprisingly it doesn't work.  I need to rule out whether it is an app issue or purely an SNA problem.

I need to know which version(s) of the HIS client are compatible with Windows 7 x64 Enterprise Edition, and still compatible with the HIS 2004 servers as I cannot upgrade them.  Does anybody know which versions will run?

My plan is to get a version of HIS running on the Windows 7 machine, then try the app to see if it works.

    Thanks in advance.

  • HIS 2010 is fully supported on Windows 7.

I am assuming that the application in question is a 32-bit application. When you install HIS on a 64-bit OS, the 64-bit version of HIS is installed. Prior to HIS 2010 Cumulative Update 2 (CU2), you could not run 32-bit SNA applications on 64-bit versions of HIS.

Therefore, you will need to install HIS 2010 and then apply the latest cumulative update so that you have 32-bit SNA application support on HIS 2010.

The following KB article describes the 32-bit SNA application on 64-bit HIS update:

2532670 FIX: An update is available that enables support for 32-bit SNA applications on 64-bit versions of Host Integration Server 2010
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2532670/EN-US

The following KB article is the HIS 2010 CU5 article from which you can download HIS 2010 Cumulative Update 5, which includes the update mentioned above.

2728515 Cumulative update package 5 for Host Integration Server 2010
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2728515/EN-US

    Thanks...

  • Thanks for the response.  The application is indeed 32bit.  I will download the relevant patches and report back once I've tested it.
