Distributed PPS Monitoring Server SharePoint Farm RRS feed

  • Question

  •

When you are installing Performance Point in a distributed manner do you need to add the Monitoring Server into the SharePoint Farm?   What servers need to be in the Farm?  Currently I just have Performance Point Monitor not in the farm and I installed the Dashboard viewer on the SharePoint WFE's.

I have Performance Point Monitor, Performance Database, Reporting Services, Reporting Services Database, Analysis Services all on their own server.  Distributed to the Tee.  My SharePoint Farm is also Very Distributed.  3 WFE's 1 Database server and 1 Indexing / Excel Services server.   11 Servers.

  • You first install the CD which lays down the Monitoring install bits.  Then you run Monitoring Configuration manager and check off the components you want to install.  Meaning if you are in a distributed install then you would choose only Dashboard Viewer for SharePoint Services if you were on your SharePoint Server. This will install the webpart.

  • Hello,

The Monitoring Server does not need to be installed on the SharePoint Servers.  The only component from monitoring that needs to be install on all the SharePoint servers in the Farm is the Dashboard Viewer.

  • How do you install the web parts into Sharepoint?

When I run the PPS CD, I have the option to "Install Monitoring Server" but no ability to select what components to install.

  • If the database is hosted on SQL Server 2008, and the PPS Server is on a separate server than SharePoint, what are the required patches on the SharePoint server for SQL?

  • Hello,

You install the CU9 SQL Server 2005 redistributables on the machine that hosts the Monitoring Webservices, meaning the Monitoring Server.  If the Monitoring Server and SharePoint Server are the same machine then you install the files you listed.  If they are different machines then you only need to install them to the Monitoring Server.
