  • Question

  • Hello,

I have a email enabled "Universal" security group called "AllStaff" that has over 2000 members. When I use the command:

get-messagetrackinglog -ResultSize Unlimited -Recipients:allstaff@domain.com -Server "MailServer"
    -Message ID "<EF3520E6079FF94BBC6C9DC0978446D5010D958B35@SRVMPS900068.domain.com>" | % {$_.recipients} | out-file c:\mps\recips.txt

This will only return the first 1000 members of the group... Is there a way to get a listing of all the members as we believe that not all of them are receiving emails and I want to verify this.

So to be clear, the email is only being sent "BCC" to the allstaff email enabled security group!

    TIA

    Steve

  • OK I found the right search to use...

get-messagetrackinglog -Sender "SenderEmailAddress" -Server "CASServer" -EventID "DELIVER" -MessageSubject "Subject of Message" -Start "12/3/2013 5:00:00 AM" -End "12/3/2013 7:10:00 PM

This returned the 2000 plus recipients I was looking for!

  • Are there multiple EXPAND events for that message? Distribution group expansion is done by "chipping" away recipients in groups of 1,000. A copy of the message is sent for each group of 1,000 recipients.

  • There are 2 EXPAND events but only one of them lists any recipients... Both of the events have the same "MessageId" so the command above still should show all the recipients for both events, should it not?

  • Yes, the Message-ID would still be the same. It's still the same message. There are just multiple copies of it, sent to different sets of recipients.

The EXPAND events should list the recipients. While the DELIVER events worked this time, they won't if there are recipients outside your organization. Those recipients will have no DELIVER event associated with their address.
