Swaping of Disks in DPM RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

Is there an possibility to swap disks in DPM for rotation backup.

    Methodology as follows,

There are 2 external hard disks that will be used for data backup, and the disks will be rotated every Month. For instance, data backed up for Month-1 on HDD-1 and then for Month-2 data is backed up on HDD-2. For Month-3 HDD-1 is used, Month-4 data is backed up on HDD-2 and so on.

Please let me know, this is possible. If yes please guide me.

    Thanks in advance.!!!

  • As far as I know this is not possible to do. You need to have fixed physical disks.

  • Marcus is correct. In the past other DPM administrators have used VTL to accomplish this. The most common VTL used with DPM is Firestreamer (http://www.cristalink.com/fs/Default.aspx) Firestreamer will present disks to DPM as tapes so that you can rotate them in and out.
