encryption RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a standalone exchange 2013 server. Some of our users are asking about encrypting their emails. Am I assuming correctly that exchange 2013 as it is has not methods for encrypting mail with other users outside of our domain and we would need to purchase a third party encryption software for use with Outlook? If so any vendors that are regarded as good and easy for users would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

  • Hi,

For S/MIME, no. Inbound messages are not encrypted.

But Exchange edge server provides encryption and authentication with basic authentication over Transport Layer Security (TLS). After deployment of Exchange edge server, all traffic between Edge Transport servers and Mailbox servers is authenticated and encrypted.

For more information about edge server, refer to this document

    Best Regards.

  • Hi,

There is a feature called S/MIME for message signing and encryption in exchange 2013 by default.

    Please refer to this document

  • Thanks.  Are all senders emails that send to anyone in our exchange 2013 environment encrypted?  Understand sending email outside our exchange environment would need encryption if necessary to send but wondering if I am sending an email to someone in our domain is that email encrypted?
