How to set up an E-mail server, ( To recieve and send outside a company network)

Hie,

The scenario is, our company wants to start hosting their own emails and not through an ISP. I somehow managed to install and configure MS Exchange server 2010, we are able to send and receive mails but only when we are connected to our company network. Is there something i have missed?
