Windows Server 2008r2 showing Error 80072EE2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Here is the story. We have a WSUS server in our network and all the machines are receiving the updates from it. In only one of our servers we get Error code 80072EE2. It also does not appear in the WSUS console. I tried to remove the lan card and re-install it but that did not correct the problem.

    Any suggestions please?

This machine isn't getting a TIMEOUT (0x80072EE2) error trying to talk to WSUS, it's getting the error trying to talk to Windows Update.

    So here's TWO things different:

    1. It apparently doesn't have Internet access (no surprise, it's a server).
    2. It's not configured as a WSUS client.

Okay. A timeout error trying to reach the WSUS server.

I tried to remove the lan card and re-install it but that did not correct the problem.

    Why did you do that?

What ELSE have you done to diagnose this situation?

It's only happening on this ONE machine? Have you verified ALL of the configurations? What's *different* about this machine than all of the others that are working?

  • It is only happening on this one machine. Which is vm. I uninstalled the nic and installed it again because i read some articles indicating this solution. I have checked that there is no firewall affecting the communication between this machine and the wsus. There is no difference between this machine and the others. The settings about windows updated are adopted by a domain group policy. So the settings are identical for all the machines in the domain.

  • Hi,

could you reboot the server and try again?

Could you try to apply the update manually?

  • I have rebooted many times. I also applied the sp1 manually. But the issue remains.

  • Hi,

if you tried to update manually, and it didn't work, I think server itself might be an issue. or its configuration.

Could you please upload Windowsupdate.log file? You can find it in:

    C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log

I also have found people tried to do with removing NIC card (or uninstalling it from the server).

Do you have only one NIC card presented on the server?

Also, what about the firewall? Do you have any sort of anti-virus software which block server's connection?

Obviously there is, or this one would be working too.
