Resource projections at a future date? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I do not yet have MS Project, but it will help a ton if I know whether it can perform the type of analysis I am seeking, and if so, how.

Is it possible to use MS Project to see projections of the availability of resources I have now, at a future date? And to guide me in optimizing what resources to use for which projects at different dates, based on their availability?

And based on what I find on resource availability, the optimal date to start a project?

I've been looking around to see anything related to what I might be looking to do... am I going on the right track looking at "resource workloads"?

  • Hello,

This is quite possible by using MS Project and MS Project Server.

Basically what you can do is to create your resources list and also create a "skill list" by using Generic resources.

Then, when planning future projects, instead of planning directly to actual resources, you can use those Generic resources and analyze when you will need them.

I do not think you can achieve this level of analysis by using only MS Project.

    Hope it helps,
