Unable to open custom application pages with custom master page in Sharepoint 2013 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi ,

I created a custom application page using visual studio 2013 on sharepoint 2013 environment .

It opens fine if i use seattle.master or osolo.master i.e. the default master pages of sharepoint 2013.

but if i apply my custom master page on that site collection it doesn't open and throws an error on page :-

    "Sorry, Something went wrong

    An unexpected error has occurred."

I could not anything important and related to this in Logs files as well. I also go through this article

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ie/ee537530.aspx  but no positive response.

Is this issue related to master page or application page?

please let me know what changes i need to make in application or master page to make it opens fine in both scenarios.

  • Normally this is because the Application page uses some specific content placeholder that is on Seattle.master or Oslo.master but not included in your Custom Master.  If you edit the Web.config file stored in the _Layouts directory to set CustomErrors="Off" instead of "On" and edit the Web.config in the calling Web Application to CallStack="true" instead of "false" you will get the specific error message being thrown by the page.  If it is a missing content placeholder it will tell you which.
