Displaying Portal URL in Email notification RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,
I am trying to create Email notification using MPs. In the email i would like to provide the SM portal links for required Review activities. Is there any to get the portal url for a SM so that i can avoid hard-coding the server name and port number each time while importing the MPs to SM server.
    Thanks in advance!

  • I'm not aware of any built-in variable to get the portal URL and I don't think it's possible since you can have multiple portal servers and service manager wouldn't know about them.

I see two solutions for you:

    1. solving it through a DNS entry. Create an alias in your DNS for your portal server URL and put this into your MP. This way you can easily change the target host if you have to move your portal server.

    2. I'm not sure if this will work in the end but if you feel you want to mess around you could try to create your own admin setting:

The blog post describes how to do that but it's quite some work. The remaining question is, how you get access to these settings from your notification template. You could try to resolve the property value using the $MPElement variable:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg469751.aspx

    Something like: $MPElement[Name=”MyClassID”]/MyPropertyName$

    cheers,
    Stefan
