Deploying KB2938066 WSUS Update to Downstream RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've seen posts that argue both schemes to deploy WSUS Patches to WSUS servers, but the only instance of KB2938066 that I find on my Win2008 WSUS 3 boxes are for the Win2012 patch.  Should this appear in the WSUS catalog of patches?

  • Hi victor.orear,

    WSUS version:
    WSUS 3.0 (SP2): Build 3.2.7600.226
    WSUS 3.0 (SP2) + KB2720211: Build 3.2.7600.251
    WSUS 3.0 (SP2) + KB2734608: Build 3.2.7600.256
    WSUS 3.0 (SP2) + KB2828185: Build 3.2.7600.262
    WSUS 3.0 (SP2) + KB2938066: Build 3.2.7600.274

If you want to upgrade the WSUS servers' version, you may refer to the above information to install related KB, I would recommend upgrade all WSUS servers to version 3.2.7600.274, if so, we just need to install KB2938066.

If you have several WSUS servers, and the WSUS servers also update from a specific WSUS server (S1), then, we may import the KB2938066 into S1, so that other WSUS servers may download and install from S1.

    Best Regards,

    Anne

  • Hi victor.orear,

    1. What is the version of your upstream WSUS server and downstream WSUS server?

    2. KB2938066 is for WSUS 3.0 SP2(Server 2008 and Server 2008R2), after installing KB2938066, WSUS server will upgrade to 3.2.7600.274. This KB is not applicable for WSUS 2012.

    3. KB2938066 is in Microsoft Update Catalog, if this KB isn't synced into WSUS server, we may just import it into WSUS server via Microsoft Update Catalog.

    Best Regards,

    Anne

  • Regional servers are on 262, my replica was on 256.

So you manually updated every replica?

    Yes, KB2938066 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=43633 is not for Win2012,

But KB2938066 (same KB) is for Win2012 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=43485
