Moving Users and ProgramData off C drive, 'metro' apps not working RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am evaluating Windows 8 Pro on a system with a small SSD as my C drive, and a raid0 of hard disks as my D drive.

When using Windows 7, I had used the Ctrl+Shift+f3 key combo to enter OOBE setup and move my Users and ProgramData directories onto the D drive. I have successfully done the same with Windows 8, however most of the 'metro'/fullscreen apps fail as soon as they start up. This has been happening to me since consumer preview, and now with Windows 8 Pro RTM.

Creating a directory junction from d:\Users to c:\Users has fixed -some- of the fullscreen apps, but not all of them, for example, the Photo Viewer, which is the default app for viewing an image, throws me back to the start menu as soon as it starts, same with the reader app when I try to view a pdf file.

Has anyone else tried this? I can provide error messages from Event Viewer if they are of any use to anyone in assisting to solve this problem.
