Can we take back up and restore of data on demand time ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Can we take back up and restore data except the scheduling time using tape or disk.Actually, there is 30 minutes scheduling for disk based data protection and 1 hour scheduling for tape.I am looking for custom based data protection and restore using disk or tape using DPM 2010.Is it possible?I want to take back up of data at demand time and dont want to wait for the schedule.

    thanks in advance,

  • Hi,

Yes, for disk based recovery points, you can manually create an ad-hoc recovery point in between scheduled times. The minimum requirement is that you must have at least one incremental synch before you can benefit of a manual recovery point, so for file data, chose the option to synch before creating a RP if no previous synch was scheduled before the manual RP.  For long term tape based recovery points, dpm mounts the last successful RP on disk (or tape if using short term to tape backups)  and copies the data to tape, so again, be sure you create a new disk or tape based RP if you want most current data on tape.

Short term to tape recovery points can be taken at anytime, since it copies the data directly from the protected server, so there is nothing special to do to get most current data on tape.
