Remove Edge Shortcut from Taskbar during OSD RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am looking for a way to remove the Edge shortcut from the taskbar.  I don't want to uninstall Edge, just not have that shortcut show up by default.  Currently we have a FirstLogon script that blows away the entire TaskBand registry key and that works; but it is messy and I don't like it.  I would prefer to just be able to surgically remove the Edge shortcut.

  • As far as I am aware that only allows you to specify new ones as it is not pre-populated.

  • Hi Simon,

Im looking for the same solution since I want to get rid of edge icon from start menu. As far as I understood this icon is coming from the edge configuration. I already deleted all active setups and the icon is still being added.

Could you please provide more details about your workaround? How have you configured it?

I've tried to edit the taskband but it will only works on the second login. In the first one, the edge icon will be there.

    Thanks in advance!

  • To make it work you have to delete the entire Taskband entry and then repin whatever you want to be there.  Once you blow it away it doesn't change visually, but as soon as you repin something to the taskbar it will update.  We are currently doing this through a logon script with a combination of vbscript and powershell.
