Windows Updates Not Working RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a number of Windows 7 clients that about 2 months ago stopped downloading updates.  I am trying to figure out what the issue is.  The windows update log shows the same thing everyday.  It starts looking, gets to synchronizing, and then shuts down at 9 pm when the computer does.  It starts the same the next day.  I have removed the auto shutdown and the status has not moved from synchronizing when I check it the next day.  Here is the windows update log:

  • I think my problem is with the wsus server.  I did an in place upgrade and it did not fix any of the problems.  I did find that the computers worked just fine going to the internet for their updates.  I will have to troubleshoot the wsus server now.

Yes I have tried resetting the components.  I have a script that runs through the manual steps.  it has not helped on a majority of the clients.

  • Hello DiggityDowns,

According to the “0x8024000B” error code, this can be permission issues with certain registry keys.

I had a case before with the same symptom. Even a manually install of the update still failed. Checked the CBS log and we found the issue was with the permission of the following keys:

    HKLM\SoFtware\MicrosoFt\Windows\Currentversion\Policies\Explorer

So, in your case, I suggest we check the CBS log and check whether similar error exists.

    Thanks,

    Simon Wu
