Edge transport and hub transport communication

    Question

  • I have two questions to ask.

Does an Edge transport communicate directly with the hub transport in the site that the mail is bound for?  Or does it send mail first to the HT in the site that it is subscribed to?

Secondly, if a message size restriction (such as 20MB) is set on the Edge transport send connector for outbound traffic, will a 25MB file get sent all the way to the edge server before it is rejected, or will the HT do the smart thing and reject it before it has to cross any WAN links?

    Many thanks.

  • For an incoming email the edge will communicate with the HT in the site that it is subscribed to. then the HT in that site routes it to the destination site.

for an outgoing message of size 25MB, the HUB server will reject the message because it is aware of the 20 MB limit of the send connector.
