Protection of exchange 2010 with DPM 2012 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am confused in below statement from TechNet. Request for help

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh758129

“One node can be protected by only one DPM server. For example, assume that DAG1 has nodes N1, N2, N3, N4, and N5. One DPM server can protect N1, N2, and N5, and another DPM server can protect nodes N3 and N4”

    So my query is

    1. Why not single DPM server can protect all nodes of exchange 2010? As it is having capacity to protect 80 TB of exchange data.
    2. If I am having 2 nodes (N1,N2) or 4 nodes (N1,N2,N3,N4), then for each node I need to install one DPM server i.e 2 and 4 resp?

    Regards,

    Parag

  • Hi,

    1- it can.

A server could be protected by only one DPM server.

In Case of Exchange DAG, when you have several nodes (Theses node can span on two or more sites) each node of the DAG could be protected by one different DPM server.

2- You should Use the "DPM2010 Storage Calculator for Exchange 2010.xlsx". This calculator will give you DPM configuration according to your Exchange needs.
