how to monitor/manage HP Blade system (HP BL460C G6) servers with MS SCOM 2007 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have HP Blade servers BL460c G6 servers in C7000 enclosure. We are planning to implement MS SCOM 2007 as monitoring solution. Do I still need to configure HP Insight Manager.

  • it depends :)

There's a mp for hp blade systems, which might be sufficient. i suggest to try it and see if you still need hp sim (the only reason why i think hp sim might be still used is for inventory, but for monitoring the hp mp will do fine).

  • The blade enclosure and ProLiant MPs make a good case for not needing SIM.  However, we've found that if you have virtual connect modules in the enclosures, neither of the HP MPs will effectively monitor these, you'll have to use SIM and write a rule to pick up events from the application log on the SIM server.

  • Thanks for your reply guys...If I have to install the MP's on the SCOM server, what else do i need to do on the managed nodes. Is there any agents i need to install or do you have any guide where i can refer the installation procedure.

  • The MP Guides have everything you need.  For the ProLiant MP, you'll need HP agents and a SCOM agent installed.  For the enclosures, you'll need to choose a server/SCOM agent to be a "monitor manager", where the enclosures will send snmp traps, which are written to a HP Blade Enclosure event log.  The blade enclosure MP has rules/monitors to pick all those up.  Overall it's a very easy setup.
