Run VPN Server on Win 10 Pro 1809+: set Up and Configuration RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm trying to run the Win 10 Pro VPN server on my PC:

netsh advfirewall firewall show rule name=all > AllPorts.txt

    Rule Name:                            VPN
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
    Enabled:                              Yes
    Direction:                            In
    Profiles:                             Domain,Private,Public
    Grouping:
LocalIP:                              Any       <<< --- how to change? Should I change it?
RemoteIP:                             Any     <<<--- How to change ? Should this be changed?
    Protocol:                             47
    Edge traversal:                       No
    Action:                               Allow

netsh advfirewall firewall show rule name=all | find "gre" /i
Rule Name:                            Routing and Remote Access (GRE-In)
Rule Name:                            Routing and Remote Access (GRE-Out)

netsh advfirewall firewall show rule name=all | find "1723"
    LocalPort:                            1723
    RemotePort:                           1723

RasMan Remote Access Connection Manager is Started/Running. I assume this means I have RRAS running?

Am I set up correctly for initiating a PPTP VPN connection to the above home  Pc from a remote win 10 pro 1809 pc?

Is All I do is use Settings/Network & Internet/VPN on the remote pc and point it to my Home pc internet address? Or do I need to also enable port 1723 and GRE Protocol 47 on the remote pc firewall too?

Or do I Control Panel/Network and Sharing Center/Change Adapter Settings/File/New Incoming Connection to setup the VPN client config the rem

I am using the same username/password account on both PC's. They are in the same Workgroup, NO DOMAIN?

I have port 1723 tcp/udp opened on my Google Wifi on the home pc .

I have the same ports open on the remote pc router.

Any help or assistance in setting up a vpn client/ vpn server connection in steps between 2 win10pro 1809+ pc's over the internet would be greatly appreciated.

    TIA

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your question.

I found an article about how to set up a VPN server on Windows 10. It is a step to step guidance.

Please check whether it is helpful.

  • That doesn't solve the problem. I did use that as a guide and this:

    http://www.practicallynetworked.com/security/set-up-a-personal-windows-vpn.htm

I am getting the following error message :

Windows could not create your connection.

Incoming connections depend on the Routing and Remote Access Service, which was unable to start. For more information check the System event log, which I did and I get this:

The RRAS terminated with the following  service-specific error: The system cannot find the file specified. Event ID 7024.

I found this and I have none of these files:

    https://www.itprotoday.com/compute-engines/jsi-tip-6054-event-id-7024-routing-and-remote-access-service-terminated-service

I do have a dnary.xsd file   NO ias.xxx files at all.

RRAS is started according to services.msc  so what the heck is going on here?

    I also found this:

    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/2d22e0b6-2e9f-41da-9f46-1a002c57bdc6/cannot-create-new-incoming-connection

I DO have that registry entry.

Please help with this error situation. I am wanting to use the built-in win10pro 1809 vpn client on my remote pc to connect with my win10pro 1809  vpn server running on my home pc.

I cannot do this until I can get the vpn server in win10pro1809  to allow incoming connections.

    TIA
