Office document error "you are required to sign in to upload your changes to this location" on shrepoint behind TMG RRS feed

  • Question

  • TMG with single NIC behind the firewall

SharePoint 2010 published through TMG. Users are authenticated though the forefront manager form.

Internal and External users both uses https//sharepoint.domain.com URL to access Sharepoint. Every time we open an office document from SP, it opens fine with no errors. After about 10 minutes, when user tries to save the document they get an error message from Office upload center "you are required to sign in to upload your changes to this location; SignIn" user click on sign in and a windows dialog box opens up asking for username and password. User enter their domain credentials and it keeps popping back. Only way around it is clos all browser windows and within office document click on File-->Resolve --> sign in to the site. This pops up the Forefront form again and user logon and can save the document.

If I use internal URL http://spservername everything works fine all day long. I have narrowed it down to authentication methods (Kerberos vs NTLM) or a timeout setting in TMG (which I have already changed most of them). I have also added the registry key as mentioned in another post and added both internal and external SP url but no avail.
