Activating a Windows 10 Capture? RRS feed

  • Question

  • All,

I have a Windows 10 image I want to capture.  It is not activated yet.  I have  MAK key.  Should I activate it BEFORE I capture or do I not and activate it each time I pull it down to a new workstation?

    Thank you in advance.

  • Do not activate the system before capturing.  Sysprep will strip that out so you will have to activate each system anyways.  You can add the MAK key to the unattend.xml file ( Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup\OOBE\ProductKey component) so it will never have to be entered again.  Then you can activate over the internet.

  • As stated before, don't activate prior to capture. Just add a step in your production task sequence to activate in the state restore phase.

Activate Windows by adding the following step to your task sequence as a commandline:

    cscript c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /ato

I know in this screenshot it's Win7, but its the same idea...
