Group Policy Not Applying - "Filtering: Denied (WMI Filter)" WITHOUT Any WMI Filters RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm having a strange issue where the Default Domain Policy is not being applied.

I would post an image, but unfortunately I'm unable to at this time. A gpresult /v shows the following:

        Default Domain Policy
            Filtering: Denied (WMI Filter)

We literally do not have any WMI Filters in place, yet it's saying that it's getting denied via a WMI Filter? Do I need to have a WMI Filter in place for the default domain policy to apply? We just want it to apply across the entire domain.

Just to cover all bases, there is also no line of text below the "Filtering: Denied..." text showing which WMI Filter the deny is caused by or anything like that.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Thanks in advance.

  • I was unable to delete the GPO as it was the default domain policy, but I found a solution.

This came down to me failing to keep it simple. I thought to do this originally, but I didn't and now I'm kicking myself for it.

I applied a random WMI Filter to the GPO, then took it off again. Now it seems to be working.

  • Hi,

Thanks for the response, but this is not the issue I have. I literally have no WMI filters in place, yet it's being denied for that reason.

  • Can you backup the policy and delete the existing one and import the settings from the backup. Apply it to the domain. it could be a corrupted GPO or something not 100% sure as you can check the event viewer on your domain controller to see if there are any relevant errors related to this policy.
