multiple BSOD caused by ntoskrnl.exe

    Question

  • Hello, a month or so ago (just couple of months after I bought a new PC, pretty decent\expensive for my country) I started to experience a lot of BSODs, only at the time I started any game or any video file. Sometimes I could play for 3-4 hours or watch a video, sometimes it crashes 1-2minutes after I start a game. It works fine while I keep browsing internet in Mozilla though. First I thought my main drive - SSD crashed - we unplugged it and tried to work on my older HDDs (which I kept from my old PC). Same problem. We re-installed Windows multiple times, it kept showing the problem. Usually it does not start right after some new action was taken - like If I change HDD and install a new windows here, a day, two, maybe 3 it works ok with no BSODs at all. BlueScreenView shows mostly always (cant recon a different result) a problem with ntoskrnl.exe.
Once I thought my memory was an issue, but 4-5 circles of Memtest86 didn't show any problems at all.
I run the latest drivers for my graphics card (nvidia geforce gtx 560 ti) and I don't know wheter my video card can cause the problem. What I know is thats its definetely not the HDD or probably my memory, so I can only think about motherboard or graphics card problems.
And to be clear at first my PC just got stuck in games and I had to reboot it, sometimes graphics in games crashed (like flashing, or everything was very smooth(blur), sorry for my english), and a week or two after it started to give me BSOD all the time in games\videos. I used Win7 driver verifier and as expected everything was clear.
I'm not good at technical side of the issue but getting a little bit desperate to find a solution I decided to ask for help from the pro's, here are my dumps of BlueScreenView:

  • Hi, Sorry to hear of your problems with your computer.

From your error reports these pages are referenced..

Frequently the error code A. Referring to IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, see:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff560129(v=VS.85).aspx

and for error code 4e. Refers to PFN_LIST_CORRUPT, see:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff559014(v=VS.85).aspx

In both cases, first recommendation is to:

    1. Download and install updates and device drivers for your computer from Windows Update.
    2. Scan your computer for computer viruses.
    3. Check your hard disk for errors.

There's more detailed info within the reports to help you also. Review these for next options to take.

    Regards, pkn

  • The thing is that HDD cant be an issue, as I said in my initital post - I've changed hdds a few times and bsod didnt go anywhere :)

my drivers seem to be up to date and regarding viruses.. well, yes, I will need to check it more thoroughly but again, can they really cause so much bsod?

    Thank you for your reply!

  • Experienced the same problem since months as n number of BSOD's caused by NTOSKERNEL.EXE every time with a new error defined before restarting the machine.

    Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 X64
    Windows 10 Pro X64

Both versions of windows OS experienced the same concern as formatting the entire HDD was the last option to resolve the glitch BUT the issue was related to the threading & processing of the CPU installed on the board.

    Intel DH55TC , Intel i3 2.99Ghz Second Gen , 8 GB DDR3 RAM 1666 Mhz

Hence what you need to do is very simple. Just follow the steps :-

    1. Boot into BIOS setup via F2/DEL key.
    2. Toggle to EXIT tab with the help of ARROW KEYS.
    3. Highlight "LOAD OPTIMAL DEFAULTS/LOAD SETUP DEFAULTS/LOAD FACTORY DEFAULTS" with ARROW KEYS.
    4. Hit ENTER KEY than YES/OK to proceed.
    5. Hit F10 to save the current settings than YES/OK to proceed.

Note :- After restarting the machine REMOVE all third party software & applications. Run Malware Bytes scan & remove threats if you don't have a LICENSED ANTI-VIRUS.

Hope this helps...In case of any query reply back to me for better assistance.

    CHEERS...!!
