SMS 2003 to SCCM 2007 upgrade RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have got a question on ITMU to WSUS upgradation.

During SMS to SCCM upgradation, SCCM setup upgrades the ITMU. Does it upgrade the ITMU, Windows Update agent and Windows Update Tool packages to the newer versions?

We are getting the below mentioned errors in PatchInstall.log when we try to deploy patches after the upgradation -

Unable to get VP cache path, Error return (2)
Error in getting the scan program name and command line, Scan will not be called
Unable to get path for scan program, Agent will not evaluate software updates.
Unable to get path for scan program, Agent will not evaluate software updates.
Failed to evaluate updates. hRes = 0x80040200

  • It's a quite big SMS hierarchy that consists more the 200 secondary servers with 13000 clients and that's why we are using ITMU to support SMS clients till we upgrade all the secondary servers from SMS to SCCM.

For the time being we have found a solution - we have refreshed the distribution points with update tool and updates agent packges, noticed that the patches are getting installed and no errors have been seen in the PatchInstall.log.

Now the only problem is that patch installation status are not replicated on the reports. Any idea?

  • Yes, ITMU is th eonly one to get upgraded, and remember that ITMU is only for SMS 2003 clients.

  • Well Googling says that error is related to it failing to register a DLL. Which Dll I don’t know..

Why not upgrade your client not ConfigMgr, now that you have the site in place? ConfigMgr will detect a lot more SU than ITMU.
