Lifecam VX-1000 Problems RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I was wondering if anybody could help me..

I have just bought a Lifecam VX - 1000 which says it should work fine with Windows Vista, but I am having trouble getting it to function.

I inserted the disc and installed the software and drivers as intructed - which seemed to work fine - then inserted the USB plug for the camera when promted. My computer does not seem to detect the camera when it is plugged in though. I have tried using each USB slot on my computer but have had no luck. I then uninstalled the software/drivers and reinstalled them.. still with no luck.

I read on the Miscosoft support page that if you had previously installed a Logitech webcam then you could experience these problems, and was then told  to download Logitech drivers. I did this, restarted my computer, and STILL had no luck.

Right now, I have removed both Logitech and Lifecam software/drivers and am about to give up, but if anybody has any idea what I could do.. please help.

Windows Vista is really driving me nuts. Nothing seems to work with it!

  • Intrestingly enough im having EXACTLY the same problems. My mother has just purchased one of these and I have been trying to set it up for her but to no avail. Ive downloaded the vista drivers from the website yet it still will not detect the camera. Currently im considering putting windows XP on duel boot on her computer just to get this damn thing running. Not the first problem ive had with vista not detecting hardware, seems microsoft really haven't got the support out there yet for all there products.

  • Good to hear that I'm not the only one with this problem.. I think, haha.

It's ridiculous that they don't have everything up and running yet.. and it's misleading when products state on their package that they work with Vista, but in reality.. they don't.

Did you have a Logitech camera previously?

  • No, she had a trust webcam, which intrestingly enough after I had upgraded her memory in her computer vista decided it would throw up a device driver missing error and that would not work either - so I bought the lifecam thinking that because it said it was vista compatable that it would work.

Ive searched the whole of google and not come up with any solutions so i'll be installing xp pretty soon Stick out tongue

  • Ah yeah.. it's completely messed up.

See, I don't want to get rid of Vista for some reason. I just wish things would start working with it though

  • I seriously need help.  I didn't spend my hard earned money for something that doesn't work at all.  I would call microsoft, but they charge money or something stupid like that.  I'm glad that some people other than me have the same problem.  I felt like I was the only one.

  • It's ridiculous isn't it.

I tried mine again yesterday using a USB hub.. you know, the adapter type, as I read somewhere that this can help.. but it didn't.

If you have one you should try it though, just incase.

  • Has anybody tried turning UAC back on (if it's been turned off), reboot and then try to install the application again via right mouse click Run as administrator?

  • Hi,

I was wondering if someone here could possibly MSN transfer the drivers of this device to me- I went to the Microsoft site: http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/digitalcommunication/DownloadResult.aspx?prod=VX3000&os=xp&lang=en&driverVersion=Lifecam%201.0

and it said to click the link to download the drivers and software but there was just plain no link...

  • Thanks so much.  The full link downloaded and worked.  The final seconds showed the loading bar not complete.  I x'ed it out and then the installation started.
The webcam now works great on my Vista laptop.  The Internet and people like you make this world truly amazing!

  • hi,

mine seems to be working okay with windows vista as far as i can see.
i have used it a few times, and its been brilliant.
however i only got it a week ago and now for some reason when it is activated, its all out of focus and blurry.
is this anything im doing wrong or simply a hardware fault which means a trip back to the shop i got it from?
fingers crossed i still have the receipt :(

  • The full link is...

I just tried this first http://download. etc link and it worked with my LifeCam.   I must warn anybody who tries it...  When I first tried to do it with the install disk for LifeCam 1.4 my Vista tried for about five or ten minutes before telling me that I didn't have enough disk space... (WHAT?  I got 3GB RAM and 250 HD)
Anyway, when I used this link, my computer STILL struggled for five minutes, but it eventually worked!
This driver (or whatever) sez it is for LifeCam 1.30...  Also, I just tested it and the Audio sounds scratchy.  I don't know if that is the computer or my camera.  I have had this camera for about a year, and it worked fine with my Compaq computer with XP last week.  Now I don't know.  But this link at least gets it into the Vista computer.  It might work fine with yours...

    Good Luck with Yours.
