Client Data is not added - Client status for all devices is No even after Manual Client install RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All

Trying to install SCCM 2012 R2 and I have gotten it installed and configured to do push installs however no matter what I have tried I can not seem to get any device to show up as having and installed client or Site Code in the devices view.

I have done a push install to many workstations and when I check the workstation the client appears to be running but it is not reporting back to the CM.

anyone know what I am missing?

  • Have you checked any log files on the client? clientidstartupmanager, locationservices, and clientlocation are the ones to start with.

Does the ConfigMgr control panel applet show the client as assigned to the site? Are all of the actions in the actions tab?

  • Hi Jason

I have continued testing and discovered that I can not test connection from the clients to the MP using the http://SCCMSRV/SMS_MP/.sms_aut?mpcert or https://SCCMSRV/SMS_MP/.sms_aut?mpcert and have also seen the MP start to error out in the site status even though the component status says the SMS_MP_CONTROL_MANAGER is currently Online but with a warning.

It seems that I have a Certificate problem that I just can't seem to get a handle on. The SCCM is 2012 R2 and the server is Windows Server 2012 R2 Std and our CertSRV is also 2012 R2 Std running as an enterprise root CA

the SCCM error logs only show 2 errors. A 5481 DMP is not responding to HTTP requests. HTTP error 12030 and a 5438 that says the same thing about MP.

  • DMP = Device Management Point which has nothing to do with managing Windows systems. Why do you have one at all?

Have you checked any of the things I asked about?

  • no idea on the DMP it seems to be related to MP in some way. There is no Device Management Point listed in the site status or component status in SCCM. Here is the error though.

MP Control Manager detected DMP is not responding to HTTP requests.  The http error is 12030.

Possible cause: DMP service is not started or not responding on all DMP physical machines.
Solution: Manually restart the SMS Agent Host service on the DMP.

Possible cause: IIS service is not responding.
Solution: Manually restart the W3SVC service on the MP.

Connections to the MP are still 403:Forbidden - Access is denied from all clients with a Cert error. I have been going back over the Certificate setup instructions that I used but I can find no errors in the setup unless there are differences in how Cert auth works for IIS in Windows 2012 R2 and 2008 R2

The only Event ID on the client is a 7045 Info

A service was installed in the system.

    Service Name:  ccmsetup

    Service File Name:  "C:\WINDOWS\ccmsetup\ccmsetup.exe" /runservice "/config:C:\WINDOWS\ccmsetup\MobileClientUnicode.tcf" "/RetryWinTask:2"

    Service Type:  user mode service

    Service Start Type:  auto start

    Service Account:  LocalSystem

  • What about the log files I asked about: clientidstartupmanager, locationservices, and clientlocation?

For the MP cert error, does the system hosting the MP also have a client auth cert?

Is there a reason you are starting out with HTTPS client communication?

  • In Answer to your other 2 questions, Yes the MP also has a client Cert and the reason for starting with HTTPS on the MP is that HTTP has been consistently greyed out through the entire install process. I have not had any other option.

Thanks again for looking into this Jason.

Seems as if there's a version mismatch between the client and MP (the MP has to have a newer version that the clients). Double check that and make sure that there are no stale entries in the System Management container.
You've the possibility to select "https" or "https/http" during the installation. I've never seen that this was greyed out. You can also switch from https to http after the installation, but that would not solve the problem I just quoted.
