MSSQL Errors + Disk Error Id 51 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have MABS DPM in a hybrid configuration with an on-prem MABS DPM server and online data protection to an Azure storage blob too.

After I add new MSSQL instances to our MSSQL Server data protection group, I see "Unable to configure protection."  When I try to perform a consistency check on the individual DB entries it says "Online recovery point creation failed."  Since this happened I've been troubleshooting and noticed 3,719 Disk error id 51 entries in the System Event Log.  There is clearly something seriously wrong.

    ProviderName: Disk

03/04/2020 16:00:19 51 Warning An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk3\DR248 during a paging operation.

What should I do ?  I've logged a ticket to MS Prem Support yesterday but they're already mishandling it.  Can anyone who's familiar with MABS DPM help ?

    Details below.

MABS DPM server: v13.0.415.0 on Win2019
Clients: Cluster running MSSQL Server 2019 and Win2019.
Databases: I and the NT Authority/System account both have owner permission and Recovery Model is set to Full where applicable.  This applies to all DBs.

  • Hello Huddie71,

Sorry for the painful experience. Just a couple of things to verify.

    1. Check if DPM writers service is running?

    2. Were there any modifications done to the protection group?

    3. Please share the support request number for internal tracking to ensure right experts can be engaged on it.

    1. The DPM Writers service has been running continuously and has not restarted according to the Service Control Manager event log entries.
    2. The protection group hasn't been modified since I added those extra MSSQL instances.
    3. The support ticket reference is 19522268.

Done it.  It's best practice and worth doing, but it didn't work.
