VM not seeing everything (??) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Ok, have built, created lots of VMs.  Scenario is VMs that don't see webcam/mic, USB sticks, Ext. drive, Windows Phone that are connected or plugged in to the PC.  Doesn't see the internal (Data) drive, either.  Does see other devices under Network.  Sees & uses the printer just fine.

In the past, VMs I've had saw all the above & should.  But, alas, @ the moment...  Should not be the case, I admit, but, I can't seem to remember or figure what's behind this.  I must have missed something, somewhere, I guess but, I'm not finding  it.  I'm used to a setting/option, in the past to enable all this ... be damned if I can come up w/ it, now.  Geeesh.

No denying I shouldn't have ask but, anybody...  Thanks, will be appreciated.

NB: This seemed like the most fitting location for this query.

    Cheers,
    Drew

  • Well, just like in the OP... What might be amiss, if anything. What has been missed or should be done or changed?  What might rectify the matter?

    Something helpful.

    Cheers,
    Drew

  • There is no direct support to usb devices or usb drives or any external device that you want redirect into a VM

The only manner is to use remote desktop services RDS

RDS is a windows role that let you provide remote services to use.

You can benefit fro remotefx to redirect usb devices like cam, micro, printer... nota all debices

You can in addition redirect drives to the remote session...

  • Thanks. That is what I thought, thanks for confirming. Somebody tried to tell me I must have missed something or done something wrong in the Hyper-V settings... which, I did not think was the case. By now I should know what I'm doing. So thanks. I didn't bother debating it w/ them.
