Backup hangs Vista system when second blank DVD is inserted. RRS feed

  • General discussion

  •

My entire Vista system hangs immediately after I insert the second blank DVD. I'm doing a simple backup of my user files. I'm using Vista Premium standard Backup/Restore utility. System is up to date with patches, minimal software installed because this system is 100% used as a Media Center. Hardware is off the shelf HP Media Center m8067n.

N.B. Similar backup worked this January. Backup spanned over 3 DVD's.

I checked Microsoft knowledgebase and no other similar cases popped up. Is anyone else experiencing this?

  • Hi,

Could you please open Event Viewer and check whether there is any error, then post the information.

  • I'm very frustrated too, as I have a problem with the backup since January. For a while it worked again, as I set the Backup for daily, but today again I had some errors:

"The Backup did not complete successfully"
A shadow copy could not be created for the following reasons: The shadow copy provider had an unexpected error while trying to process the specified operation. (0x8004230F)

I started a few new disks, as I thought this could be the problem and it did not work. As I could see in other forums, people have lots of problems with Window Vista Home Premium, 32 bits. Hope this problem can be solved soon. Thanks
