Skype for Business not logging received or missed calls from external numbers RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have an on-premise Skype for Business server and our clients use skype for business.

One of the more annoying experiences we encounter is that skype only logs the missed and received calls from our users but not from external numbers. Only when the person leaves a voice mail message do I receive an email with the number.

Is there any way to enable this? I am unable to find any information on this online but I cannot imagine they left something like this out.

  • This works by default. Have you test if it is a different when the client is started or not. You can also check the Exchange UM integration, if you get missed called notification on the Exchange UM folder for external calls.

  • This should be working as expected. Did you find this behavior on specific machines/clients . Can you create a new profile for the user by deleting the cache and also update the client to  the latest CU.

  • This is happening for all our users.

At the moment I can see missed calls from external users in my skype.

What I am still missing are the numbers from calls I actually answered. Someone calls me, I answer. I need to call him back after a while but the number is not logged in skype.

Only numbers in the skype database are logged in that way.

  • Hi Stijn,

By my test, I could find phone number when this is missing call in Skype for business client and outlook as the following snapshot(the snapshot is that shows phone number in outlook):

So, we suggest you update SFB server side and client side to the latest,

  • Hi Jim Xu,

The missed call parts is ok but what I am still missing is the received call list. The calls you actually answered.

Like, someone calls you and you answer it. Later on you decide you want to call that person again but you don't know the number since it is not in the received call log. Only number in the skype database are shown there.

    Regards,

    Stijn

  • Just a clarification, the call log in SFB client is that showing all the three tabs like All, Missed, calls and still when you click calls its not showing the full call history ?

  • Yes it is showing all 3 tabs.

All shows the received (only internal)/missed calls (only external) and conversations

Missed shows missed calls (internal & external) for a short while

Calls shows received calls from user in the SFB database but not from external numbers.

    Hi Stijn,

To troubleshoot this issue, could you give us any snapshots about this issue?

  • This is the exact issue we are experiencing in our environment. We are using E3 C2R and Office365 Skype for Business. If I call my Skype/VoIP phone at work, it rings and will connect but if I do not pick up, there is no call logged in my missed calls section. I will still get a missed call email but there is nothing listed in the "Missed" or "Call" area in the history section on my Skype client. In the image below, the calls are all from internal users. It it not just missed calls that are not logged, any external user call is not logged.

  • been having this issue as well with random users, they can login on any machine and the problem follows. Its a skype issue but MS can never acknowledge their problems, instead 1 year after the issue is posted its still an issue. Great job MS, good thing we pay a yearly support subscription for 365 and get no support from it!

  • Just had it happen to me as well, and it's not the first time. This has been an ongoing pattern of calls not being logged intermittently for the past year+.

  • I opened a ticket today with Office 365 support for the logging failure described here and heard it might attributable to the transition from Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams.  This transition to Teams is also a catch-all cause for anything else not working.  Please reset your functionality expectations to zero for the duration.  ;)

  • I was able to get Missed Calls to log in an unexpected way, though connected calls are not yet logging.

On a spare PC I installed the current build 1803 of Windows 10 and then Office 365.  I then configured Office 365 Click-to-Run for the Insiders Channel per https://erwinbierens.com/switch-office-2016-to-monthly-targeted-channel/

This updated Skype for Business 2016 to build 16.0.11029.20045, which logs missed calls.  However, this fixed Missed Call logging not only on this PC but also on my primary PC running the older build 16.0.11001.20064.  Now both of them log missed calls.  Further, missed calls from the past 2 weeks are have been added to the list.  The missed calls appear in the list with telephone numbers rather than showing bogus names like “WIRELESS CALLER”.

I'm going to infer that running the newer SfB changed some data either in the Skype back-end or the Exchange back-end.
