Volumine Shadow Copy Service error ID 8194 in the Event Viewer, Windows 8.1

    Question

  • Have found the following error in the Event Viewer relating to VSS, ID 8194 when made back up the system Windows 8.1 partition to an image file with OneKey recovery Lenovo program :

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error querying for the IVssWriterCallback interface. hr = 0x80070005, Access is denied.

This is often caused by incorrect security settings in either the writer or requestor process.

    Operation:

    Gathering Writer Data

    Context:

    Writer Class Id: {e8132975-6f93-4464-a53e-1050253ae220}

    Writer Name: System Writer

    Writer Instance ID:{7382df8f-c426-4940-a8bf-24d4ee707cf3}

I would appreciate some advices how to fix it.

    Thanks and best regards,

    Ewa

  • Hi Tao,

Thank you very much for your attention and reply.

From the 2nd link have found the following solution :

"From the Start Menu, select Run
    The Run dialog opens.

In the Open field, input dcomcnfg and click OK.
    The Component Services dialog opens.

Expand Component Services, Computers, and My Computer.
Right-click My Computer and click Properties on the pop-up menu.

The My Computer Properties dialog opens.

    Click the COM Security tab.
Under Access Permission click Edit Default.

    The Access Permissions dialog opens.

From the Access Permissions dialog, add the Network Service account with Local Access allowed.
    Close all open dialogs.
    Restart the computer"

Would it be possible to get screenshot how to do the following :

"From the Access Permissions dialog, add the Network Service account with Local Access allowed."

Have already asked  in this link but now answer from Microsoft community.

Have Polish version of Windows 8.1 but when see the screenshot of the a/m operation I will try to settle.

    Thanks and best rregards,

    EWAGOSIA

  • Hi Tao,

With ref. to my previous reply have a problem to do the bellow operation :

From the Access Permissions dialog, add the "Network Service" account with Local Access allowed.

When try to add the "Network Service" there is a note : "correct the information of the object and search again", so can not add it.

Would appreciate some advices how to fix it - maybe can get screenshots as well ?

    Best regards,

    Ewa
