Share List Across Subsites 2013 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Everyone,

I'm working with Sharepoint Server 2013.

I have created one site collection. That one collection has several subsites.

I've created a Human Resources subsite and an Operations subsite. The HR site has a list of employees. I want to be able to use the employee list on the Operations site.

How can i share the Employee list from the HR subsite with the Operations subsite?

I've only been able to find answers that deal with SP 2010 thus far.

    Thanks,

    DJ

  • Hi Damonj

You cannot share a list across sites instead you can create a data view of a library with the help of sharepoint designer and can be used in any sites on the site  collection.

  • you can use the same approaches like Jquery or Dataview webpart  that has been used in SP 2010.

  • Hi,

A very simple way of doing it was to create a web part that i could then use to any site when editing a page!

    1. Open the list in SharePoint Designer 2013.

    2. Open one of the views in detailed view by clicking the view hyperlink.

    3. Click into the detailed view between the "<WebPartPages:XsltListViewWebPart..." class

    4. Click the 'Insert' tab.

    5. Click 'Data View' and select the list you wish to publish from the drop down.

    6. Click the 'Web Part' tab and choose Save Web Part 'To Site Gallery'.

    7. When SharePoint Designer displays the following message:

"Do you want this Web Part to always show list data from the current web site…" --> Click ‘Yes’.

8.Go to the site where you need to display the list, edit the page, click the ‘Insert’ tab and then browse to the ‘Miscellaneous’ folder. You will find your list available to be added to the page.

I found the article here http://blog.cloudbusiness.com/the-company/blog-and-news/displaying-sharepoint-online-2013-lists-to-parent-or-sub-sites

    Hope this helps anyone reading...

  • I do not have access to SP Designer. I am working in SP 2013. How do I share lists between sites in the same site collection WITHOUT using SP Designer?
