Vista Freezes with iaStorV event ID 9 errors intermittantly RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I noticed there are several other threads here and on some other forums regarding the issue where Windows Vista locks up for 10-30 seconds quite randomly (apparently).  The event log shows errors with event ID 9 (iaStorV).

Several threads show the solution as being to remove SATA cables from ports 0 and 1 to 4 and 5, et cetera.

I have recently acquired a Dell Dimension 9200 with Vista Ultimate which also has these symptoms but the technical guy said this cable switching is an old solution and not recommended anymore.  The actual resolution was to flash update the firmware of the Phillips DVDRW drive.  As soon as this was performed the freezing stopped.

  • This works. Phillips sent me to Dell (I have a Dell with a OEM Phillips DVD ROM Drive). As soon as the flash update was installed, the errors stopped. I am now running Vista having just switched from XP, but the same problem was occurring with XP.
